Twelve schools awarded Get Out! Grant to enhance educational visits

EVOLVE Advice has announced the 2024 recipients of its annual Get Out! Grant, providing £500 each to twelve schools in England and Wales to help fund enriching educational visits. The winning schools will use the funds to broadening students' learning experiences beyond the classroom.

Selected from over 170 applicants, the successful schools range from small primaries to large secondary institutions, and specialist provision, each chosen for its commitment to creating memorable, impactful experiences.

A common thread in applications was inclusion, with schools asking for help funding places for children who would otherwise not be able to take part in these experiences, which are so important for their learning and personal development.

The Get Out! Grant, established by EVOLVE Advice, aims to help bridge a growing funding gap, which has left schools and families struggling to meet the costs of educational visits.

This June, The Sutton Trust revealed that 50 per cent of senior leaders in schools had cut spending on educational visits because of budget constraints [1]. Families are struggling too, with almost a quarter (23%) of parents polled in June this year saying they have had to go without and perhaps cut back on essentials to fund school trips. [2]

Past recipients have used the grant to give their pupils their first glimpse of the sea; to help fund activity residential visits, or to purchase equipment to get students out and learning in all weathers. To see the Get Out! Grant in action, read a selection of School Stories from previous winners.

Applications for the next Get Out! Grant will open in 2025 and interested schools are encouraged to apply. We’ll announce the launch of the grant on our website and in the EVOLVE Advice Digest (our fortnightly newsletter on all things educational visits, subscribe here to be the first to hear.
