Find the right course for you

  • We’re sometimes asked whether EVC training must come from a particular provider or follow a set national model. It’s a fair question — and one we’ve taken directly to the Department for Education (DfE) for clarification.

The response? The DfE has confirmed that it does not enforce or mandate the use of any specific EVC training provider or course materials.

“The DfE does not seek to endorse… or mandate the use of EVCs trained by OEAPs, LOtC [sic], or any other organisation.”

    – DfE Correspondence, July 2025

Guidance on educational visits is non-statutory, meaning it’s there to support schools, not to prescribe a single approach. Put simply, schools and their leaders are trusted to make their own decisions about how best to meet health and safety responsibilities, including how EVCs are trained – whether that’s delivered by a member of staff, or externally provided by your Local Authority or a trusted independent provider like EVOLVE Advice.

Your educational visits policy may include requirements for frequency or content of EVC training. We recommend EVCs revalidate their training at least every 3 years to remain up to date.

At EVOLVE Advice, we offer high-quality, comprehensive EVC training that puts practical knowledge and professional judgment front and centre. We’re here to support confident, competent visit leadership, in a way that works for you. Learn more about our quality assurance and accreditations.
