What would you do with £250 to help make your school trips greener?

The grant application deadline has now passed. Thank you to all schools who submitted applications.

About the Eco Trip grant from EVOLVE Advice

When planning your educational visits, do you consider your transport choices, venues or learning outcomes from a green angle too? We’ve heard from schools that this is something that they’d like to do, but it’s not easy when budgets are tight. To help you get started, EVOLVE Advice is offering eight Eco Trip Grants of £250 to schools in England and Wales for the 2023/24 school year.

The grants are designed to support schools in promoting sustainable practices and environmental awareness through educational visits. We also hope that schools will take this opportunity to look at how they can reduce the environmental impact of school trips as part of their broader approach to sustainability.

This funding opportunity is now closed. The deadline for applications was 18 July 2023. View the successful schools here.

FAQs

  • The grant is for off site visits only – this could include your local area but does not include funding for on-site outdoor learning.

Applications should focus on promoting or protecting the environment – this could be the activity, the learning outcomes or finding ways to make a trip more sustainable. The main priority is to show how it is contributing to sustainable educational visits.

For example (not an exhaustive list!) developing resources or purchasing equipment to support a nature walk around the local area; a visit to a renewable energy site; a trip to the Eden Project; covering the cost of reusable water bottles; subsidising rail travel for young people to go on an educational visit; etc…

The grant cannot be used for cover costs or for retrospective purchases/ expenses.

  • Applications were assessed by EVOLVE Advice advisers in July 2023 and the winners announced at the start of the new school term, inSeptember 2023. View a list of winners here,
