Eco Trip Checklist
Here are some ideas to help you reduce the environmental impact of your visits.
How many of these suggestions are you already implementing in your school or setting? Why not share this poster with your Eco Club or use it to start a discussion with your children and young people about how you can reduce your educational visits impact.
Use eco-friendly transport.
If you can't walk to your destination, could you use alternative transport, such as trains to reduce carbon emissions?
Choose a green destination.
Look for destinations that prioritise sustainability and have environmentally friendly practices in place. Ask them what they do!
Reuse and recycle.
Encourage students to bring reusable water bottles and food containers to reduce single-use plastic waste
Learn about environmental impact.
Use the trip as an opportunity to talk about the importance of protecting the environment and ways we can reduce our environmental impact.
Organise a clean-up.
Plan a clean-up activity at your destination to help preserve the natural environment and promote environmental stewardship
Create digital resources.
Reduce paper waste by using digital resources and guides whenever possible.
Connect with the local community.
Partner with local environmental groups conservation initiatives, or eco-friendly businesses to learn about the unique needs of the area. How can you help support the local environment?
Respect the environment.
Learn about what it means to respect the natural environment. Commit to Leave No Trace principles and take photos to prove it.
Eco Trips Grant
Eight schools have each been awarded £250 to support educational visits that help reduce environmental impact and inspire the next generation. Find out more about our Eco Trip Grants for schools. This funding opportunity is now closed.
Learn from other schools about how they are using educational visits to inspire young people to protect and promote the environment.
